Don't Forget To Pack Your Outdoor Survival Gear

Outdoor Survival Gear

Are you considering an outdoor adventure sport or activity and need to stock up on equipment?  Don’t forget to stock up on your outdoor survival gear as well.  It is important to do some research to find out what kind of survival gear you will need.  A first aid kit is really not enough in most cases that somebody needs emergency equipment.

You will need a first aid kit, of course, and you will need several other things, too.  Make sure to take along plenty of water with a purification kit and some ready to eat food, but you won’t need to pack too much extra food because you can survive several days on water alone and most emergencies are resolved in a much shorter period of time.

Some other things you will need are rope, some fishing line and hooks in case the extra food runs out, waterproof matches to start a fire, and a needle and thread in case somebody needs some quick stitches.  A blanket is always a good idea, even if the weather is warm it can help to protect you from insects and things on the ground at night.

Most outdoor recreation activities won’t require a full outdoor survival kit, but any kinds of outdoor sports that will have you climbing or hiking or alone in the wilderness for any length of time, such as most adventure sporting, do require that you have these things and possibly more.

Go to your nearest outdoor gear store and talk with someone who has experience in outdoor adventure sporting to find out what kinds of goods and accessories you might need.  Be wary, however, that they don’t try to sell you a packages survival kit and tell you that is all you need.  If they try to do this, you will want to try a few other shops and find someone who actually knows what they are talking about.

A kit will have some very basic survival needs in it, but it won’t have the other things mentioned here, which are also quite basic needs for survival.  When you talk with someone make sure that they mention the things talked about here as well as some other survival needs.  If they do, then you can be sure that he knows his stuff and is steering you in the right direction.

Even if you just make a list of the things that you need when talking to someone who is experienced in outdoor adventure sports, you can take the list and shop for everything on it at several expensive stores or online to make sure you get the best gear for your money.

Anything can happen while you are participating in outdoor adventure sporting, no matter how experienced you are.  It is essential that you be ready for the worst possible scenario.  If you are, by Murphy’s Law, it won’t happen, but if you aren’t then that is when something will happen.  Hopefully you won’t ever need to use your outdoor survival gear, but if you do, you will sure be glad that you asked the right person and had everything you needed to survive.
